Peach History and flavor in every bite
Peach (Prunus persica) owes its name to ancient Persia, the region where the species was widely cultivated in Antiquity. The Romans called it malus persicum, or “Persian apple,” and this designation gave rise to similar words in several European languages: pêche in French, peach in English, and pesca in Italian.
A medium peach weighs about 75 g and combines low caloric value with nutritional benefits: it provides approximately 30 calories, 7 g of carbohydrates (6 g of sugars and 1 g of fiber), 1 g of protein, 140 mg of potassium, and 8% of the recommended daily value of vitamin C.
Delicious when eaten fresh or used in recipes, peach is a fruit that brings together flavor, history, and nutrition in a single bite.
