Sweet Potato Nutritious flavor from the earth

The sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas), also known as batata-da-terra, batata-da-ilha, jatica, or jetica, belongs to the Convolvulaceae family, the same as tomatoes, common potatoes, and peppers.

Originally from the Andes, it quickly spread throughout the tropics and subtropics around the world, earning a prominent place in both traditional cuisine and modern diets.

The name “sweet potato” reflects the naturally sweet flavor of its edible tuber, rich in nutrients, fiber, and natural energy. The terms “jatica” and “jetica” derive from the Tupi word ye’tika, highlighting its long-standing connection to the culture and gastronomy of various peoples.

More than a versatile food, the sweet potato is now recognized as a superfood, capable of bringing together tradition, nutrition, and flavor.
