Grapefruit

    Description

The grapefruit (Citrus x paradisi) is a hybrid citrus, resulting from the crossing of pomelo (Citrus maxima) and orange (Citrus x sinensis). This fruit is also known as orange-watermelon, red orange and orange-pomegranate, among other terms.

Acid and sour with a latent sweetness, the grapefruit is similar to the orange in its succulence and shares many of the same health benefits, apart from being really tasty. The grapefruit is a big citrus, an orange and lemon relative and it is categorized as white (blonde), pink or ruby. However, this terminology does not reflect the colour of its peel (yellow or pink yellow), but the colour of its pulp instead.
