Orange

Orange is the fruit produced by the orange tree (Citrus x sinensis), which belongs to the rutaceae family. The orange is a hybrid fruit, created in ancient times from the crossing between pomelo and mandarin.

Frequently, this fruit is peeled and eaten fresh, or squeezed to make orange juice. Its seeds (small hard stones) are usually removed, although they can be used in some recipes. The exterior peel can also be used in various dishes, as an adornment, or even to add flavour.

The white layer between the peel and the segments, of variable size, is rarely used, despite its slightly sweet taste. It is recommended to "soften" the acid taste of the orange in the mouth, after eating the fruit.
