Physalis

    Description

The physalis, also known as alquequenje or camapu, has its origin in Central and South America. It belongs to the tomato family and consists of a small, round, marble-shaped berry, full of small seeds. When it ripens, it gains a yellow colouration and becomes very sweet.

There is a red colour variety in Japan called “alkekengi”, used for medical purposes and also in ornamental arrangements.
